Here i Grow again

I have just recovered from my worst illness in 6 years. A virus i must have contacted in Dubai or Doha between 27-31January was compounded by a secondary strain and voila 2 weeks of my life. WIth the pressures from a job in Nigeria and PhD research and worries about how and when to get married i had to think with help from Bob Perks essay produced in part below: I sat on the hill in my yard a while and wondered about the day. I wanted to know what tomorrow will bring and what to do with yesterday. I have thought these thoughts a million times and each time just gave in. But I discovered today that the answer lies not what I’m without, but what’s within. This grand revelation came from watching my dog play with a blade of grass. We’ve had some heavy rains the last few days and I haven’t had the opportunity to just sit outside.  But today the clouds gave way to the sun and at least for a few minutes I was able to catch up on my thinking.  It was when I looked down at a bla...

In Search of Nigerian Heroes Part ONE

At the end? Everyone loves a hero in the final movie scene. The point when good triumphs evil, success triumphs stress and victory conquers defeat. This may be because we all believe in happy endings or perhaps we just need an escape from the harsh realities of life. But is it true that heroes only exist in movies and giant cinema screens? The first season of the hit US Series by the same name "Heroes" had everyone at the edge of their seat with the calm refrain, "save the cheerleader, save the world" and in a remarkable twist that only Hollywood could produce, the cheerleader was indeed saved but was the world? "Well it did provide a thrilling climax though" says the Nigerian rapper and producer, Dr L.A.C.E dryly. We will come to him after our first few winners when i will discuss a few of my own "silent" heroes. Oops let me not get ahead of myself. It is not from my mouth that you will hear that there is money to be made on the internet but fir...

At the Beginning

At the beginning? Well there was nothing. Isn't it amazing how scientists, church folk and traditionalists all agree we came from nothing? OK so church folk differ a little. They say there was darkness and nothingness but God existed before all that. While the Darwinian crew say there was a big bang. Yes. Please think sagging jeans and converse trainers with hoodies when i say "Darwinian crew". If E=mc squared and the grand all unified god theorem is true then my solution is simple. God said, "Let there be light" and bang there was! Don't you dare look at me like that. Everyone plagiarizes. Is there such a word? Anyway I never did say i was religious guru, scientific aficionado and historian rolled in one. I love the way that word rolls on my lips, "aficionado" and i am not even certain i spelt it right but yeah neither physics nor religious knowledge were favorites in school. So? Excuse my lame excuse for history. And forgive the pun while your ...
