There is no doubt that innovative technologies require strategic thinking, foresight, insight and creativity.  A few blogs ago I mentioned my pleasant surprise on learning that persistence was an important trait for the super-creative during a boost-your-creativity workshop. Nathan Kony explains how the Impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte forced Musée du Luxembourg in Paris to hang the ‘worst’ of his 7 friends’ paintings. Gustave was so keen on this request that even when he died, it was inserted as a clause in his will and the exposure that his friends gained helped to put them on the map. (Pub quiz: can you guess the 7 friends?). Manet, Monet, Cezanne, Degas, Renoir, Pissaro and Sisley. Today impressionism is mostly known for the work of these 7. As the late great Aaliyah sang, in case you don’t succeed, pick yourself up and try again because fortitude has a critical part to play in creativity, innovation and any other endeavour for that matter.
