Age of Innovation ... Academic Scholarships and Engineering Job Opportunities for the week ending 24 January 2014
My goodness
I am shooting from the hip here but if truth be told, there is a lot happening in life and it breaks my heart when people are unable to see the opportunities that are right there before them. Perhaps it is because of my sad experience searching high and low for funding to pursue my own dreams or maybe it is because I firmly believe that everyone deserves a decent stab at life. No one should be left behind on the road to fulfillment, success and achievement but we must retain hope in the face of despair or else we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
In this age of innovation it is clear that those are ill equipped will miss out on the future. Innovation may be the elixir of progress but it has always cost people their jobs. In the last 30 years the digital revolution has displaced many of the mid-skill jobs that underpinned the 20th-centurey middle-clas life. Typists, ticket agents, bank tellers, filling station attendants (at least in the West and developed Asia) and other production line jobs have been dispensed with. This is no one's fault. It happened during the Industrial Revolution and is happening again.
One great solution is education but the very best education costs money! And if you are like me with dreams that exceed your purse you will need scholarship. Many people refuse to even try because they believe they need "connections" or a sterling resume. I believe it is a question of timing and opportunity. That is what my experience tells me. From this week we have decided to widen the sphere of opportunity so we will begin to present scholarship opportunities in America as well. For instance The Vest Scholarship program was launched in March 2013 with strong support from the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), National Academy of Engineering (USA) and Chienese Academy of Engineering see here.
Also we will also include job opportunities for recent graduates as well such as this one in development.
I believe knowledge creates and knowledge works but first you must gain that knowledge. Like Winston Churchill said, "never ever give up" in your pursuit of knowledge and happiness. You deserve it.
