Team Nigeria's Captain to the London 2012, Chika Chukwumerije is yet to know who he is going to take on in his opening fight of the men's taekwondo +80kg category.
After winning a bronze medal in the category at the last Games in Beijing, China, four years ago, the scion of the Chukwumerije is looking forward to improving on his past achievement.
Speaking at the athletes' Games Village in Stratford Wednesday, Chukwumerije admitted that he is yet to know the opponent he is going to start his gold hunt against.
"We’re still in the dark on our opponents but I know that (Adam) Isah will fight on August 9 and I will fight on August 11," said the soft spoken son of Senator Uche Chukwumerije.
Despite the information black-out, the mechanical engineering graduate remained focused on the task ahead of him here. As captain of the Nigerian team to this edition, he is certainly looking forward to showing good example.
“So far, we are ok here,’’ he said beaming a smile of confidence even as his Korean coach, Keum Silwan appears to share the feelings of his ward with a nod too.
"We received 100 per cent training and will give 100 per cent during our fights. Isah and I are doing well,’’ stressed the taekwondoist fondly called ‘Yaga’ by friends.
He is looking forward to the August 6 date when the Taekwondo draws for the Olympics would be conducted.
Secretary of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria (TFN), Chinedu Ezealah-Ogundare, assured Nigerians that the taekwondo team will deliver on promise.
"We’re one united family. We need prayers because these players have done their best to ensure victory for Nigeria in the sport here in London,’’ she concluded.
