Nigeria turns to Chukwumerije!

So far not good. The MMXII London Olympics has seen Nigeria win no medals. In Beijing the country won 4 medals comprising of one silver and three bronze and was looking to better that feat at the start of this Olympiad. In what appears a last gasp effort to salvage what is left of national pride, the hopes of a nation rests on the Team Nigeria Captain. The one-God-makes-a-way-for (interpretation of his surname in the Ibo language) is Chika Chukwumerije, the scion of a Senator.

Team Nigeria's Captain, Chika Chukwumerije, has been drawn to fight Cuba's 2011 Athlete of the Year, Robelis Despaigne in the opening clash of the taekwondo +80kg category on Saturday, August 11.
The fourth seeded Cuban is also a quarter finalist at the 2009 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
But Chukwumerije who won bronze in the event at the last Beijing Games four years ago remains unfazed, hoping to go beyond that  achievement here in London.
Nigeria's second qualifier, Adam Isah Mohammed, was drawn against a Jordanian fighter, Abulibdeh Mohammad in the 68kg category battle scheduled for Thursday, August 9.
President of Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria, Dr Jonathan Nnaji, who visited the Games' Village Tuesday said that the athletes were doing well but warned that people should not put them under immense pressure.
"They are ok and battle-ready. We don’t want people to put unnecessary pressure on them. They know what is at stake and they will do their best for the country," Nnaji said
