Fast cars: How to configure yahoo/hotmail/gmail in microsoft outlook!


Shamefully I have only just learnt how to configure yahoo and hotmail accounts to outlook. The details you require?

Select Tools | Account Settings... from the menu in Outlook.Go to the E-mail tab.Click New....Make sure Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected.Click Next >.Type your name as you want it to appear in outgoing email under Your Name:.Enter your Windows Live Hotmail address under E-mail Address:.Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is checked.Click Next >.Make sure Internet E-mail is selected.Click Next >.Make sure POP3 is selected under Account Type:

For those folk who like pictures like me? 

  1. In Microsoft Outlook, from the E-mail Accounts menu, select Tools.
     
  2. On the E-mail Accounts wizard window, select Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
  3. For your server type, select POP3 or IMAP, and then click Next (In the 2007 version of Outlook you will need to click on the lower button to "manually configure server settings or select server types") 

 4. FIll in the fields for incoming mail and outgoing mail which would be:

Yahoo
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@yahoo.com)
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

Hotmail


Enter "pop3.live.com" (not including the quotation marks) under Incoming mail server:
Type "smtp.live.com" under Outgoing mail server (SMTP):.
Enter your complete Windows Live Hotmail address ("example@hotmail.com", for example) under User Name:.
Type your Windows Live Hotmail password under Password:.Click More Settings. Go to the Outgoing Server tab.Ensure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked.Verify Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.

THis is not always necessary but you may also want to go to the Advanced tab. Ensure This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) is checked under Incoming server (POP3):.Make sure SSL is selected for Use the following type of encrypted connection: under Outgoing server (SMTP):Check that "995" appears under Incoming server (POP3:) and "25" under Outgoing server (SMTP):.Click OK.-> Next > Click Finish. Close!


Gmail


Enter your name (as you want it to appear in the From field of messages) into the Your Name field. Enter your full Gmail email address, which is your username followed by "@gmail.com", in the E-mail Address field. Enter your Gmail username and password in the User Name and Password fields respectively. Enter "pop.gmail.com" in the Incoming mail server (POP3) field. Enter "smtp.gmail.com" in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field. Click More Settings to open the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box. Click the Outgoing Server tab. Set the My outgoing server requires authentication check box. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server. Click the Advanced tab. Under Incoming server (POP3), set the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) check box. Change the number in the Incoming Server (POP3) field to 995. Under Outgoing server (SMTP), set the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) check box. Change the number in the Outgoing server (SMTP) field to 465, then click OK. Click Test Account Settings. After a moment you should see a message that says all tests were completed successfully. If not, go back to the start of this procedure and check your work.
