Best strategy to defeat terror in Northern Nigeria
It is good that the situation in Northern Nigeria is attracting concerned voices. Someone observed that the culture of impunity predates Boko Haram and has been unchecked and undeterred for the past few decades. I believe that nothing happens out of nothing and as an hausa proverb says, "if fire is burning down your neighbours house and you keep silent, becareful because your house is next!". Since we are all agreed on the dire political, economic and infrastructural ramifications of sustained destruction, the question is not how bad is bad but how good can become better. What is the best strategy to defeat terror and extremism, especially the kind professed by Boko Haram? I have always believed in a mixture of approaches.
